Angry youths in their thousands yesterday broke and looted food items from a Government warehouse in Adamawa state
Our correspondent in Yola reported that the incident occurred in the morning at about 7:10 am when a lady in yellow T-Shirt in a trending video on social media called on residents to rush and get their own share of the COVID 19 palliatives allegedly hoarded by government officials.
The government food storage facility situated at kwanarwaya,a suburb along Numan road was surrounded by these angry youths looting from all angles.
Items carted away from the warehouse include ; cartons of indomie noodles, spaghetti, salt and cooking oil.
Young people who accused the government of hoarding what belonged to the public shared videos of themselves in the warehouse on social media.
Security operatives mobilised to the warehouse were eventually overpowered as the crowd swellled with more people coming from the town despite foiling several attempts by the looters to access the federal government Silo located in the area.
The Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Dr Sulaiman Muhammad lamented the incident, that the looters should have waited for government to distribute the items.
He explained that the government had already commenced the process for distribution and was making effort to secure items which were not supplied especially rice when the looters struck.
