Armed angry supporters have attacked former members of the APC who defected to ADP in Osun State during a meeting and several defectors were reportedly injured during the attack.
Reports from various online news portals said a group of armed angry youths attacked members of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) who recently defected from All Progressives Congress (APC) during a meeting on Saturday, July 28, in Osogbo, Osun state.
It was reported that a former chairman of the Oriade local government area of Osun state, Taiwo Fatiregun, and four others were injured in the attack.
Fatiregun, in an interview with newsmen in Osogbo, on Sunday, said the hoodlums numbering up to 30 invaded the venue where members of the ADP were holding a political meeting in Ijebu Jesa and attacked the defectors.
He said: “We left the APC last week for the ADP; and we were holding a meeting yesterday (Saturday) when some hoodlums numbering about 30 came and attacked us. Their sponsor asked them to kill me; but I was lucky. One of them hit me on the head with an iron rod. They also injured four others during the mayhem.
“I was rushed to the hospital. A chairman asked them to attack me; he is still with the APC. He instructed them to kill me. The hoodlums broke Adewale Adewumi’s two hands; Ojo was also injured; Bashiru Albankudi was injured and Sunday Folorunso almost lost one of his eyes, as well as Moses Fajuyigbe, who was also inflicted with a machete cut on the head.
“Nobody died among us and the case was reported to the police and the police have started arresting the brains behind the attack. Their main sponsor has been arrested; and I think two others.
“Those who carried out the attack fled but the chairman’s son was among them.”
The police spokesperson in the state is yet to confirm this attack or the arrest of the suspects as all efforts to get a statement from the police pro has been unsuccessful.
It can be recalled that Moshood Adeoti, the secretary to the Osun State Government, had earlier resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). He announced his resignation in a July 21 letter addressed to the party.
