From Umar Dankano, Yola
A party stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, PD, in Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo, has
attributed the failure of his party(PDP) in the last Saturday’s Anambra governorship election to the wrongful decision taken by the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee during the primaries of the party in the state.
Dr. Ardo made his position public via a press release yesterday accusing the Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of taking to self-serving interests against Justice, constitutionality and wise counsel which he opined that “the result is what we’ve seen in Anambra last Saturday. It is sad PDP did not get even a second position in the contest.”
While commending INEC for conducting a rancour-free election, he posited that with the current national caretaker committee under Makarfi’s leadership, it will be difficult for the party to win any election in the future.
“While we thank INEC for conducting a rancour-free election and formally declaring the final results, it is worthwhile stating that with the glaring injustices and unconstitutionalities being perpetrated by Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee across the country to advance its inordinate
ambitions, PDP cannot win any election in this country while members of this Caretaker Committee hold sway.
“I am not surprised that the party came third in Senator Ben Obi’s own polling unit. As National Secretary of the PDP, that’s a disgrace and embarrassment to the party.
“It is unfortunate that people who cannot deliver even their own units are the ones determining the affairs of the party. It is a shame that the Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee turned out to be a big disappointment to most party members of good standing and to worthy Nigerians,” Ardo fumed.
Reacting to the development, the leadership of the party (PDP) in the state said knowing who the personality (Ardo) is, the party is not surprised with his stand on Anambra election, describing him as “a political ingrate” in the scheme of things.
State Secretary of the party, Mr.Abdullahi Prembe, told Peoples Daily that Dr. Ardo was speaking for himself not the party, noting that in democratic contest, there must be a winner and loser; hence they have accepted the defeat in good faith.
“We are not in any way surprised with Ardo’s reaction on Anambra election; but as a party we believe that in politics losing and winning are factors, as we accept the defeat in good faith,” Prembe maintained.
