The Assets Management Cooperation of Nigeria,AMCON has donated school uniforms ,instructional materials and relief materials worth over N100 million to the children of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in the three states worst affected by Boko Haram insurgency in the North East.
Managing Director of the Corporation, Alhaji Ahmad Lawan Kuru disclosed the development in Yola Wednesday while flagging off the distribution ceremony.
He said that , as part of the corporation’s cooperate social responsibility, the idea to assist children of IDPs especially school drop outs came up.
Represented by Head of the Corporation’s delegation to Adamawa state,Mr.Usman Abubakar,Kuru, he explained that in the three states of Adamawa,Borno and Yobe ,a total of 3000 beneficiaries were targeted for the support noting that the assistance has become eminent considering the hardship facing the displaced parents and guardians of the children.
Kuru said ,the organization decided to partner Education Crisis Response Unit under USAID support project so that the real beneficiaries can be reached genuinely through the already established centers for learning in these states involved.
In his welcome address at Girei Central Primary School where 56 pupils were mainstreamed in to formal schooling, Project Director of Education Crisis Response Yola, Mr.Ayo Oladini said his department tries to mobilize parents and guardians to take their children back to formal schools.
Oladini appreciated the efforts of AMCON in partnering with ECR to bring succor to the children labeling them as future leaders who deserves absolute guidance and counseling.
He stated that 600 children are being mainstream from informal method of learning to formal one so as to offer them good training for future endeavors.
Addressing the gathering at the occasion, district head of Girei,Dr.Ahmad Ibrahim Mustapha commended the gesture noting that the importance of education can never be over emphasized, Mustapha charged the parents and beneficiaries to make judicial use of the items provided for them as he prayed for the donors to be rewarded by Almighty accordingly.
Earlier in his response when the delegation paid a courtesy call on him Thursday,Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla described the coming of AMCON’s assistance in the state as timely saying his administration has declared state of emergency on education sector .
Governor Jibrilla said the support will serve as a complimentary role to the state government’s program me in education sector due its importance to humanity.
