As part of its effort towards promoting inclusive human capital development, authorities of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) yesterday commenced the disbursement of the sum of N21,320,000 need-based scholarship package for students.
In particular, a grand total of 806 beneficiaries comprising of 430 university undergraduates, 346 College of Education, Polytechnic students; and 30 Master’s degree (MSC) students respectively will receive the scholarship award for 2019.
our correspondent reports that while each of the MSC students will get a token of N50,000; Bsc undergraduates will get N30,000 each whereas NCE and other students will receive N20,000 each.
Speaking during the official disbursement of the 2019 scholarship award, AMAC Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, said the educational support package aimed at complementing the effort of parents and guardians of the beneficiaries, in their academic pursuit.
Candido explained that the percentage for the scholarship distribution given to the Committee in charge of the scheme was 90 for aborigines and 10 for the other Nigerians domiciled in AMAC.
He therefore charged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the Council, by ensuring judicious use of the funds to attend to their needs.
“We will appeal to you to manage we are only complementing the effort of your parents and by the grace of God, we intend to do this again next year and again the upper year before, we finally exit by the grace of God.
“You have done yourself good and you are going to become a source of pride to all of us tomorrow at old age, while after we may have retired from this service I believe we will be taking a look at you watching you on television and listening to you on radio as pride of the FCT people. This is my prayer for all of you.
“Sincerely, I’m not satisfied with what we are even going to drop for you . It can still be better by the grace of God.
For other Nigerians who were given a lesser percentage, you are not in any way ignored, you are not in any way put in a disadvantage, we are only asking you you sympathize with the FCT people,” he stressed.
Earlier in his remarks, Head of Department, in charge of Education, Sheriff Aminu, who stated the modalities for the scholarship disbursement, disclosed that the successful beneficiaries were drawn from across the 12 wards of AMAC.
