The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) yesterday signed 2018 appropriation bill into law, barely a month it was laid before the Council legislative chamber.
It was gathered that the AMAC Chairman assented to the appropriation bill in the tune of N6,921,263,402.00 , after it was carefully worked on by the legislature in record time.
Recall that the 2018 fiscal document tagged: “Budget of Reality and Consolidation”, the sum of N3,753,344,883.00 (54.23%) was apportioned as Capital expenditure; and N3,167,9 18,519.00 as recurrent expenditure respectively.
Also, it has projected income of N3, 821,263,402.00 from Net statutory allocation; N600,000,000.00 and N2,500,000.00 as 10% FCT and AMAC Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) respectively.
While assenting to the appropriation bill, Candido hailed the legislature for its speedy passage, thereby setting the pace of the rapid execution of projects in the Council.
He explained that fiscal document had inputs from finance department and other stakeholders in the Council, which his administration chose to do such fashion, because it’s democracy in action.
According to him, the assent of the Budget has signalled the commencement of accelerated implementation of projects and programs of the Council.
He reiterated that due process must be adhered to in the award of contracts in the Council.
Furthermore, while making far reaching policy statements, the AMAC Chairman charged officials that new projects must be commenced and completed between now and July this year.
He added that ongoing projects that suffered setback last year must be completed before May, saying that the Council don’t want to engage in gigantic projects, because of challenge of Funds.
He equally announced the renaming of the Council’s Apo Secretariat after Member House of Representatives, Hon Zephaniah Jisalo, in recognition of his outstanding performance during his reign as AMAC Chairman.
In his remarks, AMAC Head of Administration, Alhaji Ahmed Yahaya Khana, assured the Chairman of staff commitment to implement the Budget to the letter, to ensure the realization of its objectives.
“It’s expected of us (bureaucrats) to follow the Budget religiously, in order to ensure rapid and efficient implementation of the Budget,” Khana stressed.
