No fewer than three hundred interfaith clergymen have declared support to the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on his re-election bid in the forthcoming Area Councils’election in the Territory.
Announcing the endorsement at the weekend, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, of the World Harvest Ministries Inc, Jikwoyi, Abuja who led over 300 clergymen drawn from both Muslim and Christian faith-based organisations to publicly support Candido, said their action was in the best interest of the people in the Council.
Archbishop Kawas, who is General Overseer of World Harvest Ministry, was the senatorial candidate of the Freedom and Justice Party in the just concluded 2019 National Assembly and Presidential elections.
According to him, “Over 300 religious leaders and 500 support groups have endorsed Candido because he is doing well, so we are calling on all AMAC residents to support and to vote for Candido in this area council election,” he said.
“The rationale behind our endorsement is because we know him and have seen his programs including road construction, women and youth empowerment.
“The man (Candido) here is for the people, and his programmes are people-oriented.”
In the same vein, the AMAC chairmanship candidate of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), Sam Bassey announced his his decision to join alliance with the incumbent council chairman, in order to ‘move the council forward.’
The candidate who said he stepped down to support the agenda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in transforming the council, noted that the council is already in a better hand.
He explained that he dropped his ambition to support Candido who is seeking re-election because of his programs which he said was similar to his agenda.
He adds; “the only way I can contribute is in the area of waste management. That is turning wastes to wealth.”
In his response, Hon. Candido said he was humbled, delighted and excited about the candidate that stepped down and the endorsement.
“There must be the hand of God in this place, bringing men of God to witness what my colleagues have done for me.
“I am happy and I think it is another motivation to do better when we get to the next chapter by the grace of God,” he said.
