The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido has urged Civil Societies and other stakeholders organisations to ensure proper investigation before reporting the unverified activities of the council to the public.
Candido, who made this known while reacting to the recent allegations of abuse of office and protest carried out by some concerned citizens through a civil society organisation in debunk alleged infractions leveled against him.
He noted that his administration operates an open door policy noting that all contract awarded were been advertise and publicised in accordance with the procurement Act.
He added that the council for the past three years has only generated about nine billion naira as against nineteen billion been alleged by his critics.
While describing the protest as politically motivated and merely acting on the script of their paymasters, noted that he will not succumb to any pressure from any person wanting to use him as stooge.
According to him, asking questions through appropriate channels, of how public funds are spent, was the best way of holding leaders accountable to the people.
“Citizens outside there are not ready to listen that there is no money, all they want is to see the service.
“We do all we can to see that salaries are paid and projects are executed, so the 13b and the 19b naira as totally sum can only be better imagined.
“I wish that by your investigative part of journalism you may be able to find out the exact amount.
“I want to understand that collectively this area council has made at least 9b naira put together and then about 6.1b has gone as salary.
“The remaining we use for other projects, so the facts and the figures so produced by the protesters can not stand because it was a lazy description of what is going on here,” he said.
Recall that a Non Governmental Organisation known as Civil Society for Human Rights and Rehabilitation last week led a protest to the AMAC Secretariat in Area 10 Garki- Abuja .
The group during the protest made allegations of abuse of office and mismanagement of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by AMAC Chairman, during which it submitted a petition signed by the FCT Coordinator of the group, Comrade Joseph Jonah, and addressed to Speaker of the AMAC Legislative Council.
