Sheikh Ibrahim El ZakzakyFrom Ado Abubakar Musa, Jos with agency report

The leader of the Shiite in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky, has accused the Nigerian military, of plotting the bomb blast in Potiskum local government of Yobe state, which led to the death of twenty six members of the group, during a religious procession.

The leader of the group, who made the allegation yesterday on the Hausa Service of the BBC, monitored in Jos and lamented that his group was aware of the plot prior to the incident but went ahead to conduct the religious procession, explaining that it was an annual event and could not be stopped.

In his words: “Prior to the attack, we learnt that the Nigerian military was going to launch an attack on us during our religious procession in Zaria. Unknown to us, the military had changed to Potiskum. Despite being aware of the attack, we went ahead and did it, because it is an event we do every year.”

When the BBC asked the leader about the evidence to buttress their claim, that the military was responsible for the attack, Al-Zakzaky said,” we have evidential facts which indicated to us that it was the military. We have pictures of the military that launched the assault and this is not the first time. If you could recall, three months ago, the military did the same in Zaria.

“It is now very clear that soldiers have been given license to be killing innocent people in the country”, he added.
