Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa state Saturday, commiserated with displaced Tiv communities affected by the recent communal clashes across four local government areas of the state.

The Governor who undertook a tour of major Tiv settlements in the four local government areas of Doma, Obi, Keana and Awe, commiserated with the Tivs, assuring them of steps taken by his administration to secure their lives and property.

Al-makura equally donated N8 million, N2 million each to Tiv communities affected by the crises across the four council areas, as well as food items and household utensils worth millions of naira, to mitigate their plight, even as he said the presentation of relief materials will be a continuous exercise.

While identifying with their plight, Al-makura disclosed that series of meetings were held involving Tiv leaders in the state and from the affected councils, as a result of which his administration assured them of need for the displaced Tivs to return to their original homes.

The Governor assured the displaced persons that after holding various meetings with his executive council, security agencies traditional and Tiv leaders, with due consultation with chairmen of local government areas, his administration was assured of maintaining and supporting communities across the state by ensuring the security of lives and property.

“The government and security agents are battle ready to defend and protect the lives and property of every citizen of Nasarawa state”, he said.

While appealing to the people to return back to their settlements, stressing that government will provide more security to the affected areas, Al-makura however warned that his administration will deal with anyone found to be breaching the peace.
