Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has cautioned those calling for the postponement of the scheduled February general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the callers as unpatriotic Nigerians.
Al-makura made the call yesterday in Loko, Nasarawa local government council of the state while addressing thousands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters in the area who came out to express their appreciation for the laudable achievements recorded during his administration.
According to him “A critical observation shows that this country needs a deserving change viewed against the political winds blowing across its length and breadth. It is unpatriotic for anybody to dream of postponement of this election”.
While maintaining that such calls are but mere individual decisions, Al-makura noted that the country must not be made to suffer unnecessarily because of some few unpatriotic elements.
“The call is an individual decision,it is undemocratic. Why should some few unpatriotic individuals call for the suspension of election while Nigerians are eager and set for the conduct. As patriotic Nigerians such ideas should not be accepted. I urge the good people to go against the move”.
The occasion coincided with the elevation and presentation of a staff of office from the 2nd class to 1st class status to Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Sabo as the Sarkin Loko.
