Former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Senator Godwil Akpabio have been named to head the Presidential Support Committee (PSC), for the re-electio President Muhammadu Buhari.
Akpabio, a senator, is to serve as the coordinator of the committee, saddled with the responsibility of coordinating over 4000 support groups campaigning for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Inuagurating the committee in Abuja, Senior Speacial Assistant to the President on political matters Gideon Sammani, said the choice of Akpabio to heads the committee was as a result of his firm commitment to the re-election of the president.
He expressed confidence with the calibre of people in the committee, and urged them to word had to ensure the success of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 16 election.
In his acceptance speech, Akpabio charged members of the committee to go back to their rrespective units and mobilised support for President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We must ensure that from Abuja, we move right down to where elections are held. We must go back to the units. We must have unit collators, monitors, observers, and watchers. We must have those who will follow the results from the unit to the ward level, from the ward level to the local government level, and from local government level to the state level, and from the state level to the central collation point.
He expressed confidence that the committee have the capacity and spread to deliver on their mandate “we have men of timber and caliber.
We have political caterpillars. Many of us are tested and trusted. We also have very capable women. The most reliable group of people in Nigeria when it comes to elections are women. And those who are most reliable in terms of protecting election results are the youths.
“Let me say that we must bond together as a family. It doesn’t matter what we meet on ground. What matters is that we must work with what we have available. There must have been some duplications of appointments. We will look into those issues. It’s not so much appointment that matters.
“The only appointment I want you to have in mind is to be a coordinator for President Buhari in 2019 election. God is in the business of fishing people out. Once your heart is sincere towards this venture, once you are doing your best even if man does not see you, God has seen you. And your reward will come. I’m here not just to coordinate the activities, I’m also here to look at you.
On his part, former governor of Bauchi state, Malian Isa Yuguda, charged members to work 24 hours a day to be able to achieve what they intend to achieve, adding that the PCS has over 4000 support group under their committee who have been running the organisation.
“We just have to leverage on what we have found on the ground and fast-track our activities. We have only few weeks to the presidential election. We are supposed to be working 24 hours. And every minute matters to us to be able to achieve what we intend to achieve. Because we have our plan. We have to develop and reschedule the timelines.
That should be what you should be working on. If you have a lee time of maybe two or three months, today the lee time is just three weeks.
So, you can imagine what you should have done in two or three months to be done in two or three weeks. But I believe we have to work three times as much as we should have worked if we have plenty of time.
Director publicity of the committee, Kelani Mohammed said all the 4000 support group.will come together to convert massive crowd into votes for the president.
“What we are doing now is to work on real issues. What Mr President has done, the development so far in Nigeria so that when he gets the next four years, he will build on it to carry Nigeria to the next level. He commissioned Baro Port. Thousands of jobs are coming from there. He has signed AKK – Abuja – Kaduna- Kano Gas Pipeline which will also create thousands of jobs. All the companies that are dead now in the north since we don’t have enough AGO and AK4 to operate, gas is a big substitute for that.
