Community policing has been described as the best strategy to end insecurity in Nigeria.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 0ne, Sadiq Abubakar Bello stated this while addressing police officers at Dutse Police Command as part of his two days familiarization tour to Jigawa State.
He explained that, the community policing is not designed to accommodate religious, tribal or any parochial sentiment but to promote community security delivery.
According to him, community policing is an initiative aimed at creating partnership between security agencies and community to prevent crimes in the society.
AIG Sadiq also charged the police officers to be professional in discharging their responsibility and strictly adhered the rule and regulation of policing as well as Nigerian constitution.
He told the officers that for them to achieve their desire goals of providing security to society they must respect the members of the public and treat any human with dignity.
Psc, Sadiq, however, told the officers to behave in a decent manner, be presentable and always try to build the public confidence on them for accessing vital information to address any foreseen possible breakdown of law and order in the society.
The AIG called on the general public to join hands with police and other security agencies to ensure security of life and property.
The AIG also held interactive session with various religious, community leaders, civil society and other trade unions during which he appealed to them to join hands in supporting community policing.
