Agriculture can check Nigeria’s population growth – Researcher

A researcher, Engr. Kienuwa Obaseki, has assured that agriculture can help keep the five million annual population growth rate in check if the right policy is put in place.
Obaseki made this known during a presentation on the Nigeria of our dreams and the future of Nigerians youths yesterday in Benin City.
He called for the creation of agricultural roadmap with an initial investment of 5 billion dollars into the sector by the federal government.
According to him, “the problem of Nigeria is economy and lack of structure”, adding that “corruption is not synonymous to Nigeria alone”.
He sued for increase budgetary allocation to the agricultural sector and more investment for skill acquisition in tertiary institutions.
He assured that when the right policy framework is put in place, the initiative will provide social security for the citizens and make crime and prevention easier.
Obaseki stated that when the right policy framework is put in place, there will social security for citizens which would impact positively on other aspects of human lives and society.
“We must identify the threats. Whether we like it or not, out of school Children are growing.
“If we continue to wait for foreign aid, Nigeria can never develop. We need to have the willpower to solve our problems.
The rate in which Nigeria’s problems are escalating, is disturbing.
Europe and the United States are rejecting African migrants especially Nigerians.
“For the Country – Nigeria to make progress, we need to work out a programme that can build and unite the nation.
“Nigeria’s problem is not religious differences, but lack of structure and economic problems”.
He further advanced for a good tax system established by the federal government”, he stressed.
“If a good tax system is put in place, it will make the nation work again.
“If people are working, they have yo pay tax to get things done. But, that tax has to be uniform throughout the Country”, he said.
He advised that there should be a mechanism where certain percentage are allocated to the federal, States and Local Government Areas.
