•New faction rejects convention outcome
•It is all distraction, says Secondus

A fresh crisis has hit the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as some aggrieved candidates and stakeholders within the party yesterday formed a parallel party and set up another secretariat for the opposition party.
The concerned candidates and stakeholders, who addressed journalists in Abuja to unveil their version of PDP, as the Fresh Peoples Democratic Party, described their faction as the true reformed and rebranded PDP founded by great men of intellect and integrity.
The members of the group, who spoke through Prince Obi-Nwosu Emmanuel, said they are deeply hurt by the brazen acts of unparalleled impunity and gross manipulation of the December 9 elective national convention of the PDP in Abuja
They equally frowned at what they called the overbearing negative influence of some governors in the party, stressing that that has worsened the future of PDP.
According to the concerned candidates and stakeholders, “Over the years, the high ideals of our founding fathers which heralded the formation of PDP have been eroded by new entrants into the party, who introduced very corrupt and anti-democratic practices that eventually led to the colossal loss which the party suffered in 2015.
“You are all aware that we held our national convention on the 9th and 10th of December 2017 at the Eagle Square here in Abuja. It was supposed to be an elective convention where a new National Working Committer, NWC , of the party will be elected.
“Most tragically, there was no election on that day, but a selection of predetermined persons who were eventually announced as the new NWC members
“As concerned candidates and stakeholders of our great party, we deem this perfidy that took place at Eagle Square a charade orchestrated by the former National Caretaker Committee, NCC, of our great party led by former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi and perfected by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led National Convention Planning Committee “, they said
They accused the NCC of the PDP of deliberately refusing to release the delegates list as was agreed upon by all aspirants until barely 24 hours to the convention, which is contrary to our party constitution.
“The petition written by some of the aspirants with respect to the chairman and secretary of the electoral committee former Governor Gabriel Suswam and Dr Sunday Onor respectively, were completely disregarded by the NCC and never attended to.
“The actions of the Chairman of the Electoral Planning committee, Gabriel Suswam during the convention showed clearly that they had concluded the election even before the date of the convention. What a tragedy for democracy?
The concerned candidates and stakeholders, who tagged their faction “Fresh Peoples Democratic Party”, insisted that the entire process of selecting the purported NWC was concluded before the convention and a list of those selected was published which eventually was circulated at Eagle Square long before voting commenced.
They added, “Evidence is available to show that some names in the fraudulent unity list collected nomination forms after the official c closing date and some others were not even screened as required by the party’s electoral guidelines
“The most despicable part of the entire moonlight play was that the so called Unity list was printed on the letter head paper of our party, the PDP suggesting that it was authorized by the leadership of the party and the National Executive Committee
“The fraudulent Unity was openly circulated to delegates without restraint and the electoral committee chairman, Chief Gabriel Suswam supervised the entire charade even confiscating the telephone handset of an agent to a candidate who dared to challenge the fraud and captured the event with his camera phone
“To prove that there was no election but selection which was concluded long before the convention every person on the purported Unity List emerged victorious not one on that list lost. What an irony and abuse of leadership?
Continuing they said, “to this effect , we have officially opened a national secretariat of the party here in Asokoro , Abuja from where the authentic National Working Committee NWC of the party will be operating”.
They therefore called on members of the PDP to cease forthwith any correspondence with the illegal NWC selected through the most undemocratic way ever witnessed in the history of the party
They promised to announce the complete list of the legitimately elected NWC of the PDP by January next year.
