From Ibrahim Sidi Muh’d, Gusau.
The Zamfara state Secretariat (Press Center) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) which has been in dilapidated shape for decades is currently undergoing befitting general renovations.
The Council Secretary Malam Abubakar Ahmad of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who is in charge of the exercise told journalists that, the center have been in a state of dilapidation which has been experiencing bitter embarrassment whenever colleagues from other sister councils visit the state NUJ press center.
The center according to him, is provided with welfare facilities that were not there before including Television Viewing Center, Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, comfortable seaters and sports recreation courtyard as well as plan to provide boreholes and renovations of conveniences.
Abubakar regretted that “The center is a shameful experience with nothing on ground to derive some reasonable pride to show as members of the fourth estate of realm, and we observed that, a comfortable environment serves as morale booster which encourages productivity and strengthen professionalism”.
The secretary said “These shortcomings were what informed our decision to strive hard to mobilize resources for upgrading the welfare and the professional comfort of our members, in my capacity as secretary, I will maintain the focus to ensure that Zamfara press center can favorably compete with other council centers in the country”.
Also speaking, the Acting council Chairman, Comrade Abdurrazak Bello Kaura said, he is the most happiest as “this unprecedented record is being achieved during my tenure”.
Bello Kaura further said, the renovation and upgrading of the welfare status of the press center was long overdue, observing that “success can only be achieved when there is the will needed to support the target mission”.
He gave the assurance that the exercise will sustained until the desired target is attained, adding that, his administration has vowed to restore competence in all the good members of the NUJ and the good governments and people of the state.
