No fewer than five hundred residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been engaged and empowered by Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) on digital skills, to enable them effectively maximize the digital space.
The beneficiaries were drawn from all walks of life, ranging from media practitioners, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) amongst others, for the training, organised by AEA in conjunction with the Google inc, as part of the activities to mark 2018 global entrepreneurship week.
Our correspondent reports that the trainees were assmbled in batches for a four-day free digital skills training, which kicked off on Monday, at the AEA Entrepreneurial Complex, Jahi, Abuja.
Declaring the training programme open, the managing director/chief executive officer of AEA, Arabi Muhammad Tukur, explained that the programme was meant to accelerate business, create employment opportunities, as well as reduce poverty in the territory.
Tukur noted that the training aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of 500 participants in the thriving digital space, hence enhancing and facilitating business growth for rapid development of the society.
He reiterated the commitment of the AEA to ensure continuous improvement of the MSME sector in the FCT.
He urged participants to be open minded and focused on exploring the digital space for the good of themselves and the FCT at large.
Also speaking, one of resource persons, Tayo Olosunde, said digital skills for Africa is a Google initiative in conjunction with various training partners, which aims at training young people in digital skills.
Tayo said the initiative is geared towards the goal of helping close the digital knowledge gap in Africa, improve employability and job creation.
The resource person opined that empowering entrepreneurs with digital skills remains critical to the development of the society.
Olosunde added that it is an opportunity to drive the google digital skills programme, which, according to him, has been discovered as one of the ways through which entrepreneurs are going global.
He therefore called on participants to take the training programme very serious and to leverage on the opportunities to become entrepreneurs and business owners.
He continued, “We are happy that the participants have been so inspired and have been connected to online portal, where they can continue to do the online training.
“And connect the other global entrepreneurs to actually exchange resources and values and create the job, as well as leverage on the wealth in the web.”
