From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna.
The President of referees/ Judges of Nigerian Boxing Federation and chairman of Niger State Boxing Association, Mr. Tee Jay Adams has charged all boxing stakeholders to acquire necessary techniques and skills of global boxing to avoid been cheated in competitions.
Adams who made the observation while speaking to our reporter at the weekend in Minna, said “when you are knowledgeable of situation or game then you cannot be cheated or surprised of officiating, because you can call the attention of anybody when things are going wrongly.”
He lamented over the way many Nigerians feel reluctant to give adequate support to some sports in the country which he said was due to inadequate publicity and attitude of few players among others. “Awareness is very crucial in every game, it could be individual games or team, this has discouraged many professionals in the country and that’s why anyone who is opportune to go abroad never comes back to play for our country, we need to make a change” he said.
Adams advised youths in the country to take advantage of sports industry to be engaged to avoid a situation whereby graduates await white collar jobs for years which might not come their way. He urged Nigerians who are well to do to always give maximum assistance and support to professional sports where many Nigerians earn their living as such will give them the needed encouragement, create jobs and reduce restiveness in our society.
