Aggrieved members of Adamawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have yesterday submitted petition accusing members believed to be sponsored by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of hijacking the party in the state by fraudulently allocating all positions to themselves.
The petitioners, led by Umar Ardo, described the Adamawa State PDP State Congress that took place on Saturday, 4th November, 2017, as “a lackluster contraption that has no standard rules and guidelines, no judicial legitimacy and an utter disgrace to the PDP.”
They alleged that “members of the State Caretaker Committee of simply sat down and distributed the party offices amongst themselves” adding that in spite of the position of the party on the issue of conducting a fair a free Congress, “11 of the 25 members of the State Care Taker Committee simply transformed themselves into so called elected state exco members against the policy of the party as stated by the National Chairman at their inauguration, thereby denying party members from participating in the contest.”
Addressing reporters after submitting the petition at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, Ardo, on behalf of Aggrieved PDP Aspirants, said “At the Ward and LGA Congresses, no election took place in Toungo, Ganye, Mayo Belwa, Demsa, Numan, Shelleng, Yola North, Yola South, Mubi South, Michika and Madagali Local Government Areas. Caretaker
Committee Members representing these LGAs simply sat in their rooms and drew up their lists and submitted as elected executives.
Dr. Ardo noted that at the inauguration of the State Care Taker Committee, the Chairman of National Caretaker Committee, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, stated clearly that any person who is a member of the Committee is ineligible to contest in the congresses.
“The ugly situation was made worse by the complete abscondment of the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Imam, who had left the state for two weeks since the conduct of the Ward congresses and abandoned the entire exercise in the hands of a clearly compromised, venal and incompetent secretary, Mr, Gibon Timothy Katap.”
During question and answer session with the reporters, Ardo said it was former vice president Atiku Abubakar who was behind this fraudulent hijack of the party matchinary in the state.
He said that “In an effort to handover the party structure to the former Vice President, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, the constitution of the party was disregarded, especially at the Local Govt Chairman and State chairman levels, where his supporters who decamped from the APC to the PDP only a week earlier were returned elected without waiver as required by the party constitution. Examples are in Yola South, Yola North, Girei, Human, Madagali, Jada LGAs Chairmen and National Delegates among many others.”
