From Umar Dankano, Yola
The President Muhammadu Buhari’s in-law and an All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant in Adamawa State, Dr. Mahmood Halilu Ahmed has
maintained that he still remains in Thursday’s (Today) race for the ticket of the party.
In a press statement issued by his campaign office in Yola, Wednesday, it was categorically stated that some aspirants who felt intimidated with his presence in the race are peddling lies and blackmailing his personality over the contest.
He noted since they could not match him in a fair contest, they resorted to fabricating unsubstantiated rumours, to the effect that he has stepped down from the race, noting that apart from being in the race, he is sure of victory.
Modi noted that in his quest to serve Adamawa people who have been famished, pauperized, defeated and reduced to second fiddle by the intransigent and deceitful government of the day, he is ready to pay the supreme price.
“No amount of blackmail will extinguish my sole desire to rescue Adamawa people from the snare of hunger, poverty and squalor which has been superimposed on them by a band of predatory leaders who have squandered our future as a people.
“I’m not in this contest for my personal gains but for the people of Adamawa and will never surrender to baloneys of a well orchestrated and choreographed campaign of calumny aimed at sullying my character and killing my determination to rescue the good people of Adamawa state.
“I’m ready to even pay the supreme price for the sake of the good people of Adamawa,” he said.
He noted that in their desire to obfuscate the people of the state, his traducers have been concocting and disseminating false reports that he will contest senatorial seat adding that such level of desperation can only come from politicians who harbour a morbid fear against the people for the deluge of atrocities they committed against them.
He said as a loyal party man, he will continue to abide by the party guidelines and electoral procedures adding that in that respect he has amply prepared to face his opponents fair and square in tomorrow’s party primaries just as he called on his supporters and good people of Adamawa to come out en mass to vote him as the party’s candidate for better Adamawa state.
Modi said from his virulent antagonism of the direct primary mode adopted by the NWC of APC, it is apparent that Bindow has a mortal fear of facing the people because he has not served them well, noting that instead of carrying his cross alone, the governor is desperately trying to rock the ship of the party for his selfish whims.
