Ahead of the October 11, 2014 governorship election in Adamawa state, a youth group known as Adamawa Youth Alliance for Change (AYAC), said it has critically and objectively monitored the situation in the state and have drawn a conclusion that o all the governorship aspirants, Senator Abubakar Halilu Girei of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stands out, and will therefore enjoy its support.
The President of the group, Hon. Umar lya Gulak, alongside other leaders of the group who addressed a press conference in Kaduna yesterday said their decision to give their support to Girei is sequel to his political pedigree which they found satisfactory and also his wealth of political experience as an independent candidate.
According to the group, “following the impeachment of former Governor Murtala Nyako and the resignation of his Deputy James Bala Ngilari, we, members of the Adamawa Alliance, comprising of Adamawa indigenes
resident in various states across the country, have closely monitored the political activities in the state and have resolved unanimously to take a stand.
“We have also monitored the political calculation and manipulations of those aspiring to govern the state in their various political parties.
We, as a group have also looked critically and objectively at the political pedigree of all of the aspirants.
“Based on our assessment of all those seeking to govern the state, we have come to the conclusion that one person stands out of them all as the most qualified to be given the opportunity to bring his political wealth of experience to bear.
“That person is in the person of distinguish Senator Abubakar HaIilu Girei of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who is an independent aspirant and has maintained consistency in his choice to govern the state since 2003; he has maintained a political structure and acceptability in all the local government areas of the state.”
According to the group, Girei has a proven record of integrity while in the Senate in 1999-2003, and has no political godfather.
“We therefore believe that if such person is given the mandate of leading Adamawa state, he cannot be manipulated to do the wrong thing, but will do that which will benefit the generality of the good people of our dear state,” it said.
