The Adamawa state Ministry of Health in conjunction with state Primary Health Care Development Agency and other Health Partners have commenced a week long campaign immunisation exercise to mark the African Vaccination Veek (AVW) in the state.
Declaring the exercise open in Yola yesterday, Commissioner of Health ,Dr.Fatima Atiku Abubakar said the vaccination exercise is an annual occasion being celebrated in the month of April across Africa purposely for enhancing immunisation programmes.
Dr.Abubakar said the AVW is to strengthen immunisation programmes and to increase awareness of the importance of every persons, especially children and women needs and right to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Abubakar stated that it also aimed at delivery of other high impact lifesaving interventions.
“The campaign drive is aimed at keeping immunisation high on national, state and LGAs agendas through advocacy and partnerships.
“This year’s theme is ‘Vaccines week, do your part; every one of us has a role to play to ensure that all eligible children and women are vaccinated.
“While Government makes efforts to ensure availability of safe and potent vaccines, parents and caregivers have the responsibility of making their children available at our various health facilities across the state for vaccination “.
