Adamawa State House of Assembly yesterday ordered the arrest of four commissioners for their failure to appear before the House over issues that relate to the breach of budget implementation.
The legislators had on Wednesday directed six commissioners, Secretary to the Adamawa State Government and the Accountant General of the state to appear before its plenary. The lawmakers defended their action for the order of the arrest of the commissioners based on contempt.
At yesterday’s plenary, the Deputy, Speaker Kwamoti Laori (PDP-Numan) directed the state Commissioner of Police, to arrest four of the six commissioners for their failure to show up and bring them before the house on Monday by 10 am.
The commissioners affected by the arrest order include commissioners of Agriculture, Mrs. Lucy Ishaku; Health, Mrs. Lilian Stephen; Commerce, Alhaji Ahmed Gorko and Land and Survey, Alhaji Abdulrahman Shu’aibu.
The lawmakers acknowledged the receipt of a letter from the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Kobis Thimnu, over his inability to honour yesterday’s invitation.
The chief scribe was however ordered to appear unfailingly on Monday, to respond to some questions bordering on the allocations disbursed to the state from the Federation Account and the implementation of the state budgets.
