Former African Representative of the Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, Dr. Sulaiman Shinkafi, has declared all legal challenges filed by him before ECOWAS Court, 8 Federal High Courts across Nigeria against former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari withdrawn for discovering elements of truth.
Speaking with Journalists at Abdulaziz Yari’s Talata Mafara residence today (Sunday), Dr. Shinkafi said he decided to withdrew all cases before competent courts within and outside the country against Abdulaziz Yari on negligence on security that led to the killing of innocent lives during his 8-year in office as Governor of the state.
“I later realized that, former Governor Yari had even done his best during his two tenures as he made all needed provisions in support of operations carried by security agencies comparing what was currently happening under present Governor Matawalle-led administration.
“It is quiet a weak idea to believe that Peace Negotiations with hard criminals like bandits would work especially considering the level of the so-called achievements by the Zamfara State Government with the level of repentance and recovery of arms that did not even represent five percent of the number of illegally handled arms and their bearers.
“Being human rights activist who specialized in conflict resolution and prevention under the two refutable organizations in crime management and cotrol, I can stand to challenge ways been taken by the Zamfara State Government as means of measures to tackle security challenges. The issue of enticing criminals to repent and or surrender weapons would never pay.
“A crime should not be treated and handled the same way as that of struggles for rights and legitimate claims denied by the governments, but criminals especially in the category of killings, abductions and rustle of cattle and other constitutionally protected property should either be arrested and prosecuted, and or get crushed by forces of the State”, Dr. Shinkafi has observed.
He also declared his intention to join politics on the platform of the opposition APC with a view to put more grease for Abdulaziz Yari to continue to struggle for the survival of Zamfara State which has now pushed to the edge of collapsing by the present administration.
“I am calling on Mr. President, to for the sake of saving Zamfara State from the wicked hands of armed bandits and kidnappers, declare State of Emergency on the state with the immediate appointment of a Sole Administrator to take over the affairs of the state as that would give opportunities to overcome the lingering security challenges”, Dr. Shinkafi has cried.
