A Benin-based human rights activist has challenged the eligibility of Egor Local Government Council Chairman in Edo State, Eghe Ogbemudia, creating an upset in hierarchy of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State.
The allegation which has put the integrity of Council boss on the spotlight and left instant judgments on social media, border on alleged discrepancies in the documents she used to contest Edo State Local Government election held on March 2, 2018.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Edo Civil society organizations (EDOCSO’s), Comrade Osazee Edigin, is demanding for explanation from Eghe Ogbemudia to clarify, considering the significant political risk ahead as, a public office holder.
Eghe, is a daughter of a former governor of the defunct Bendel State (now Edo and Delta States), Brigadier-General Samuel Ogbemudia (rted) who died two years ago.
She was elected along with 17 other Local Government Council Chairmen on the platform of APC Local Government and Councillorship on March 2, 2018 elections.
In an open letter which Comrade Osazee Edigin personally signed and made available to our Correspondent, he raised issues of concern” as an indigene of Useh Community, Egor Local Government Area”.
Edigin, challenged the Council boss, to prove the validity or otherwise in the documents Eghe Ogbemudia who has being a benefactor of Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, submitted to the State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) for he election.
It was widely speculated that She wobbled through the battle of ideas to secure APC ticket in the election which was widely disputed by the main opposition party – peoples Democratic party (PDP).
Edigin, in letter dated 24, 2018 and addressed to (Eghe Ogbemudia), reads in part: “I write on this note to get clarification as to the correctness and appropriateness of the results/documents alleged to have been used by your person to vie for the Chairmanship position you currently occupy.
Other incendiary quotes that had been passed through the sewage of social media platforms.
According to him, “That the documents you (Eghe Ogbemudia) parade and submitted to EDSIEC were being forged and or/misleading and that you lied on Oath about the loss of your West Africa Senior Certificate Examinations Certificate which you swore to an Affidavit to that effect”.
Responding to the allegations, the Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Eghe Ogbemudia denied receipt of any letter of such from Comrade Osazee Edigin.
In the said telephone interview, she responded violently to our Correspondent and asked: “What do you want?”.
“I am not aware…I did not receive any letter from him”, he said menacingly.
A top official of EDSIEC who craved for annonimity said the Council Chairman you mentioned was duly cleared by EDSIEC, apparently to douse tension.
“Although, some of the Candidates presented Affidavit during the screening, which is known to law”, he admitted.
A close aide to the Council boss who craved for anonymity due to safety concern, said: “My boss now maintain a low profile, especially while relating with pressmen at public fora”.
