The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) in a fresh move to find lasting solution to the problem of terrorism in Nigeria, is set to engage governors in the Northern states in the next few days in order to discuss how to facilitate a reduction in tensions which exist at all levels of government in the country.
The two groups disclosed this in a joint statement, signed after a meeting of the two group held in Kaduna yesterday.
The statement signed by Colonel Jip Ubah (rtd) and Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, for ACF and NEF respectively, stated that the group will organize a Northern leadership summit to comprehensively access the nature of the multiple threats which the north is facing and what steps is taken to deal with them.
The statement appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan, State Governors and other leaders to exercise restraint in their utterances and action and demonstrate the highest quality of leadership.
“We appeal to Mr. President, our governors and other leaders to recognize that our nation is facing the most dangerous set of challenges since its formation. These are times when wise counsel and the highest commitment to a peaceful and secure nation need to be deployed by all Nigerians of goodwill.
“We appeal to Nigerians to pray to God to help our nation to get over its current challenges,” the statement concluded.
