Abuja: Corps member commissions initiative to empower women

A youth Corps member serving in the Federal Ministry of Power, Works & Housing Abuja, Kelechi Obi, has commissioned, her Women Empowerment Community Development Project in Mabushi community of Federal Capital Territory(FCT)Abuja to empower women with different types of skills acquisition to enable them carter for themselves.
Obi made the disclosure during the commissioning of project at the weekend, enjoined the beneficiaries of the project to take advantage of the free two months training and seminar to better their family economy and their community.
Thus was contained in a statement signed by Snr. Infor. Officer, Henry David said she explained that, the skills acquisition were in different categories ranging from catering, cosmetology, making of ankara, jewelries, bags, slippers , beads among others.
She also expressed her gratitude to the people of Mabushi, private individuals and agencies that supported her developmental initiative.
Consequently , The Chief of the community, Etsu Maupeyi who was represented by James Kusase appreciated Obi for her laudable initiative for empowering women within the locality and promised that the people would not forget her for the knowledge and skills she bestowed on them.
While encouraging the women to impact the knowledge acquired on others, he urged the women in the community to use the skills to grow their financial base and that of the community.
Also,The Director Information, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and and Housing and head of the department ,Theodore Ogaziechi, said Kelechi Obi was an exceptional youth corper ,advised other corp members who were present at the occasion to learn from her selfless service.
Ogaziechi who emphasized that ,the issue of development shouldn’t be left for government alone but that everyone at his own level can make an impact.
Similarly, the Deputy Director Special Project Unit in the Ministry, Amaka Onieba advised the women to stop looking for white collar jobs and take advantage of skill acquisition training such as this to empower themselves in order to create jobs and be self-employed.
The Principal Inspector NYSC, Mrs Telta Aisha who supervised the project advised other youth corp members to borrow a leaf from Kelechi as she commissioned the project.
Meanwhile ,the Assistant Director Information, FMPW& H, Mrs Enoh Olotu, presented awards and gifts to well deserved participants.
