Former chairman of El-Kanemi Warriors Club of Maiduguri, Alhaji Bashir Abiso has expressed appreciation to Governor Kashim Shettima for his support in ensuring that an indigene of the state becomes a board member of the Nigeria Football Association (NFF).
Abiso who was speaking in an interview with journalists, described the untiring moral and financial support of the governor as the secret behind actualizing the dream which the soccer loving people of the state have been yearning for years.
According to him, despite the fact that he narrowly lost to 21 to 19 votes to his Borno state counterpart, Babagana Kalli, Abiso said the victory was not only for the state, but for the entire northeast in particular and stressed the need to support NFF in order to achieve its desired objectives.
The former El-Kanemi boss then called on the new board members to work harder in ensuring that skillful and talented players were discovered for national teams, so as to contribute their quota to the progress and development of football in the country.
‘’Honestly speaking, the elections was free and fair and as a first time attempt, I can say it is okay, Abiso explained.
He however pledged to continue to support Governor Shettima in turning around the sports sector in the state as he has already introduced various football programmes aimed at not only tapping the hidden talents in the state, but also assisting them to develop their skills for future national and international engagements.
The sport administrator then urged Nigerians to continue to support the federation in order to sustain Nigeria’s high profile as far as football is concerned.
