The Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Fatima Kabir Buba has evacuated beggars and the mentally ills from the roads in different parts of the state.
The beggars were evacuated from different parts of Lokoja metropolis including Zango, Ganaja village, Obasanjo Square among others to the ministry’s rehabilitation center and then transported back to their various home state in about six buses.
Those sent home were mainly from the Northern parts of the country including, Katsina ,Kaduna, Kano , Bauchi, Zamfara among other states.
Hajiya Fatima led other officials of the ministry to profile all the beggars , they were fed and provided with basic needs before they were evacuated to their states and local government area of origin.
The commissioner,in a statement disclosed that the evacuation excercise was not discriminatory but to rid the street of beggars roaming the streets in the state.
She noted that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure that they are transported to their respective locations with utmost respect and dignity.
She promised that the state government would not relent in its effort in getting beggars off the street.
Hajiya Fatima commended Governor Bello and the first lady, Rashida Bello for their immense support throughout the excercise.
