The Deputy Project Manger CNEEC Sinohyro Consortium,Engr. Babatunde Adewunmi said that the 700 megawatt Zungeru hydroelectric Power Project constructed in Niger State ,will provide additional energy capacity for the country .
Engr. Adewunmi made the disclosure to the Minister of State II for Power, Works and Housing,
Suleiman Zarma , during an inspection assessment to the North -Central zone .
He said zungeru power project was award September 2013 , worth 1.3million US dollars was a loan from the Chinese Nexim bank ,already is 43%completed and the time lapses in December 2019 .
Consequently, the Deputy Project Manager maintained that 2,640kb watts power will be generated from the project annually to contribute to the nation .
“When we presented it to the ministry earlier to ensure we take the advantage of the hydro power potential that river Kaduna provides to the topographic location of allowing high advantage required to provide power through energy project and below the option was the Shiroro dam,hydroelectric project under 600megawatts and also under this project we have Kainji dam.”
“The advantage we are having for this project is the additional water coming in between Shiroro andJebba dams is what we mortalizing fro the power generation “,Adewunmi explained
” we will generate 700units of power , individual units , 175 megawatts each, Nigeria is currently providing power through venom . “the new technology is first of it kind in Nigeria “,Adewunmi said .
While explaining that 4000 People have gotten employment ranging from technicians to the high level position.
“The Zungeru power project has benefits socio – economic value, employment, additional capacity of energy security in the country and like wise agriculture “.
Responding, the Minister pointed out that the project is very key to the Federal Government to add power supply to the nation in order boost Gross Domestic Product ( GDP) of the nation .
“The700mg will also touched the lives of the citizens “.
Zarma emphasised that the Zungeru power project has contributed immensely towards providing employment opportunity to over 3,000 people including Nigerians.
He said that project is billed for 1.3billion Naria and currently the contractors have delivered 15% of work ” iam very much impressed and the contractors are on point “.
Similarly,About 7000 additional house hold in the federal capital territory, FCT, are to enjoy improved power supply through a 132 KVA capacitor bank installed at the Apo power sub-station.
The Minister of state II, power works and housing, Hassan Zarma who stated this in Abuja during an inspection of the facility, said the capacitor bank would improve the credit rate of the country in transforming power supply in quantity and quality.
He said the capacity bank of the Apo sub-station stood at about one hundred and ninety, but increased to two hundred and ninety with the intervention of the ministry.
The Managing Director, Transmission Company of Nigeria, Usman Muhammed said they are putting up additional 330 KVA in the FCT.
Muhammed gave an assurance that the company would complete the project in Keffi, Nassarawa State by June this year to improve power supply in the area.
