Five thousand women suffering from Vesicovagina Fistula (VVF), are to receive surgery for the repairs courtesy of Kaduna State Government, office of the first lady of the state and World Health Organization (WHO).
Kaduna state first lady, Hajiya Fatima Muktar Ramalan Yero disclosed this while speaking to the media in Kaduna Tuesday.
Hajiya Yero said 1,000 of the women have already undergone successful surgery to repair their problems and they’re now living normal lives, whereas the remaining 4,000 are expected to follow suit before the end of the year.
Mrs. Yero who was speaking on her 2yrs in office as the first lady of Kaduna state, said one of her priority is to see that the remaining 4,000 women undergo their surgeries successfully, because VVF has both health and psychological impact on the patients and as a woman, she knows what it means to be stigmatized and abandoned by loved ones.
Speaking on other programmes executed by her office in the past 2yrs she said, the HIV/AIDS prevalent rate has reduced from 9.8% to 8.2% which is very encouraging considering that Kaduna state is one of the states with high prevalent rate.
“We’re also working in collaboration with the state government to enlighten our women to bring out their children for Polio immunization and that’s why for the past 2yrs no new case of polio has been recorded in the state, this is encouraging.”
Mrs. Yero who said her heart is grieved because of the increasing number of child abuse in the society, warned perpetrators to have the fear of God and remember that they have sisters or children who may fall victims some day.
