Over five hundred associations and political groups from the three senatorial districts of Niger State have unanimously adopted Alhaji Mohammed Umar Nasko (PDP), former Chief of Staff to Governor Babangida Aliyu as their candidate for the governorship election come 2015 even as Nasko is set to declare to contest the election Thursday.
All the groups which cut across different tribes and religion in the state have therefore vowed to do everything possible to ensure total victory for Umar Nasko not only at the party primaries but the election proper.
Nasko’s endorsement by these groups is coming barely one week after the Niger North Senatorial District major stakeholders of the PDP endorsed him for the governorship ahead of other eight aspirants of the party from the zone.
Addressing newsmen in Minna yesterday the chairman of the consolidation of vision 3:2020 comprising all the groups, Alhaji Yahaya Dan Salau, said people from across the state believe in the capability of Alhaji Umar Nasko to continue the good work outgoing Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu has done in the state.
“Umar Nasko has undergone training in the Talba School of political administration, he scored first class in the Talba School we are all working for him because of our belief that he will succeed in the administration of the state”.
“All those that want the progress of Niger are with Nasko, he is a man of the people, he is more than qualified to take over, all that Governor Aliyu has achieved in the state will be consolidated upon by him”
Yahaya Dan Salau who is the state commissioner for planning also dismissed as baseless insinuation that series of petitions have been tabled before the National Working Committee of the PDP as one of the ways to stop the candidacy of Umar Nasko arguing that in any contest people want to use orthodox and unorthodox means to gain undue advantage over their opponents.
According to him, “You can’t stop anybody from writing petitions after the primaries we will all come together and work for the success of the candidate that wins and the PDP”.
Noting that all aspirants in the PDP are qualified to be governor, Yahaya Dan Salau added that “only one person can be governor , this is our moment it is a time for the youth” stressing that “some of the aspirants are our brothers some are even our father who will later give us their support”.
The declaration of Umar Nasko on Thursday, Yahaya Dansalau said will hold at the Bako Mohammed Kontagora memorial Stadium and will attract people from within and outside the state.
