Over 50 people from Gaya in Niger Republic were feared dead yesterday, while 47 were rescued in kebbi following a boat that capsized in Lolo town of Bagudo Local Government area of kebbi state.
The incident which occurred yesterday while the people were returning back home from the market day.
Meanwhile, the boat which conveyed about 100 passengers from Gaya Niger republic capsized in water due to overload confirming the incident to newsmen who were on visit to the scene to ascertain the number of casualties and deceased yesterday, the Chairman of Bagudo Local Government, Mohammed Kaura Dan Akinmin said 47 were rescued and taken to Illo General Hospital for medical attention while others were still being searched for.
“No dead body was found yet and searching is still on, no people from Nigeria, they are all from neibouring country” he said.
He explained further that those that were rescued have been handled over to the Niger Republic Government for other medical treatment after giving them their own medical support while urging the people, most especially the pilot to stop overloading of the passengers and goods.
