No fewer than five herdsmen were reportedly killed, while over 200 cattle rustled in Yelwa town, in Shendam local government area of Plateau State.
It was reported by the Plateau state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Alhaji Haruna Boro Hussaini, that the killed herders were allegedly attacked at about 4 p.m. on Sunday, by suspected Tarok militia, who later went away with their cattle to Langtang-South local government area of the state; but the Tarok, on the other hand, through their spokesperson disputed the claim made by the Fulani.
Haruna explained that “it was true that five of our people were killed by Tarok people of Langtang and had made away with 278 cattle; the case had been reported to the soldiers keeping peace in Yelwa”.
The chairman also alleged that, apart from the killing of their members, 135 cattle were also rustled in Dorowa Babuje village, in Barkin Ladi local government area of the state.
When contacted, the Media and Information Officer of the STF in the state, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed the incident, saying that effort was being made to recover the perpetrators. He added that the cattle rustled in Dorowa were recovered.
