The Pro-chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Abuja, Alhaji Sani Maikudi, has disclosed that five out of eighteen medical graduands of the institution came out with distinction in surgery.
The five medical graduands include; Adamu Dahiru Bara, Imam Abubakar, Ugwuneji Uchenna Okechukwu, Okoli Dabeochukwu Uzoamaka and Chuckwurah Uchenna Jude.
Maikudi, who made the disclosure an address presented during an interaction with newsmen at the permanent site of the university, applauding the graduands for their commitment, focus as well as perseverance in pursuing their studies for twelve years.
His words: “In fact, it is worthy of note that during the challenging periods of the medical college before its final accreditation the NUC approved a special programme for the current graduads to obtain by examination a pre-medical degree in medical Biochemistry which makes them now proud recipient of two first degrees of the University of
Abuja, one in basic medical sciences obtained in 2016 and the other in medicine and surgery to be conferred in 2018”.
He charged the graduating medical students to always possess good character in the years ahead as they were trained to render selfless service to humanity in anywhere they found themselves.
He said: “We pray that you will continue to excel in your endeavours and be shining examples of what the university stands for”.
He therefore, expressed joy as the management of the University of Abuja graduated the first pointing out that the leadership of the Governing Council are ready to support the University administration in all ramifications.
The Pro-chancellor, however, briefed that the courses like Engineering, Veterinary medicine as well as Agriculture had been given accreditation fully.
Also speaking during the press briefing, the Vice-chancellor of the University, Prof. Michael Adikwu, revealed that fifty out of fifty-three courses run by the University were accredited by NUC.
