Speaking with Peoples Daily Sports about the competition, the Vice President of One Big Family Concept, Silas Audu said the aim of the competition was to bring youths together under a friendly and competitive atmosphere so as to take their minds away from committing any form of crimes. He said the tournament is tailored towards discovering new talents and help the youths to have a better future.
Audu added that they look forward to support from rich individuals, private organizations and government to come to their aid. “As a matter of fact, this competition is designed to take the minds of our youths away from crimes like robbery, taking drugs among others. We are not gaining anything from this tournament rather we take the little we are able to get to motherless babies’ homes and also to the less privileged as part of our support to the society.
We plan going to the hospitals to help the sick too but it is a gradual process. That notwithstanding, the three top teams will be rewarded at the end of the competition. The third place team will go home with N50,000 cash prize and bronze medals, the second team will get N70,000 cash, silver medals and sets of jerseys and the winner will collect N100,000, gold medals and sets of jerseys. The competition which started on August 22 will end on October 5, 2014.
Coach of the CJ Academy Kurudu, Fabian Idaba whose team recorded a 1-0 victory over UTC Garki said he was satisfied with the performance of his boys saying his target was to win the trophy and groom his boys for Nigerian national teams.
