From Ado Abubakar Musa, Jos

Gunmen suspected to be Berom militia from Gyel community attacked a mosque in Kerena area along Bukuru expressway in Bukuru town of Jos-South Local government area of Plateau state, wounding three persons.

The incident occurred on Saturday at about 8 .20 p.m., when some residents of the area were performing their evening prayer after breaking their fast.

According to Abdulrahman Dahir, who was leading the prayer of that evening said the gunmen started shooting sporadically at them while observing their prayer. He said one of the victims was shot in his chest while two others were shot in their legs.

He narrated that, “We were praying when suddenly we heard a gunshot. Before we knew what was happening, three of our members were seen lying on the ground asking for help; and this is not first time. Three months ago, a similar event happened, when some gunmen opened fire at same mosque, only that nobody was in wounded. We suspect the perpetrators to be of Berom parentage because any time they launch their attack, they flee to Gyel community, which is their area”,   Abdulrahman added.

The leading Imam gave the names of the victims as Lawan Abdllahi, Bashir Iliyas, and Sagir Ibrahim who were currently receiving treament at Airforce Hospital in Jos South.

Confirming the incidents, the Special Task Force (STF)’s media/information officer on restoring peace in the state, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, said the incident had happened but that it was not too bad and that the area was calm.
