Three motor park touts yesterday appeared in a Grade 1 Area Court in Kado, Abuja, for allegedly assaulting a commuter and stealing his cell phone.

Ernest Udie, 25; Henry Ananias, 39, and John Gabriel, 27, are charged with joint act, criminal force and assault.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Mr Ifeanyi Nweke of Area 1, Garki, and Abuja reported the Matter at the Utako Police Station on April 13.

He alleged that the accused “formed a common intention and beat up the complainant at Julius Berger Junction Without provocation’’.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 79 and 264 of the Penal Code. If convicted, they are liable to two years in prison, an option of fine or both. The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Presiding Judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, admitted Udie, Ananias and Gabriel to bail for N5,000 each with sureties.

Sadiq also ordered that the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction. He adjourned the case until May 19 for further hearing. (NAN)
