Yobe state Police Command in an effort to ensure the protection of lives and properties of residents in the state has heightened security operations in the state to curb or nip crimes in the bud by 24 hours patrols.
This measure is yielding positive results as many has been arrested including recent tip in which 29 men were arrested, prosecuted and sentenced in Courts of Justice in Damaturu, the state capital.
During their trial at the Senior Magistrate Court in Damaturu, the state capital, Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Bulama Maina told the court that the accused persons were arrested by a police patrol team at odd hours, beyond 1000 hours of the day, which he said contradicts section 152 of the penal code law.
In his judgement, the Presiding Judge, Asiya Abubakar, has sentenced 26 of the convicts to one week imprisonment without option of fine, two out of the total number who were judged to be under aged, were sentenced to receive 12 strokes of cane and discharged, and one was discharged without any punishment administered.
He warned them that they should desist from disobeying laid down laws as it was meant to protect people’s lives and properties, adding that the sentences passed on them is a warning to them and others who may followed same course of obedience to laws of the land.
