The Plateau State Police Command said 26 persons lost their lives, one hundred and ninety houses were razed down in recent attacks that occurred in Mangu and Bokkos Local Governments Areas of the state.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ubah Gabriel Ogaba and made available to newsmen Monday, in Jos maintained that 11 persons were so far arrested involving the Fulani ardos and the community leaders of the affected areas.
The statement reads; “The Command wish to set the records straight in view of the attacks in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs between 26 & 28/01/2020. In the attacks that happened in Bokkos LGA, twenty-two (22) persons lost their lives which includes fourteen (14) from Kwatas, four (4) from Sabon Barki, three (3) from Marish, one from Chenget. Also, four (4) persons were killed in Marish, Mangu LGA bringing the total number of deaths to 26”.
The command, further revealed that a total of one hundred and ninety houses were set ablaze which includes one hundred and twenty-three (123) houses owned by the natives and sixty-seven (67) houses owned by the Fulanis.
The police requires members of the public to continue to provide useful information to the command in respect of this unfortunate incident, nothing that it’s expedient for the public to be on alert and report any suspicious movement around or within their communities promptly to law enforcement agents.
We however, enjoined residents of the affected areas and indeed, across communities in the state to continue to promote cordial interplay, embrace peace and always strive to be law abiding, the statement added.
