The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Mahmud Mohammed, is set to swear in about 242 judges who have been appointed to form the election petition tribunal in the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) come 2015.

As indicated in a statement issued yesterday by the Media Aide to the CJN, Mr Ahurakah Isah, the list of the appointed judges has not yet been made public.

In a separate event, the chief Justice of Nigeria has urged the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to do proper investigations, before presenting any case in the court in order not to turn the court into a waiting room adding that the commission was fond of presenting too many cases against suspects without the will to conclude it.

According to him, the scenario had pitched the judiciary in bad light, as the public may think it was calculated to deny the weak of justice. “To reiterate, if for any reason the prosecution is not ready to proceed with the case, then the matter should not be brought to court at all rather than leaving the public with the impression that the judiciary is not performing its role in curbing corrupt practices in Nigeria,” he added.
