24 financial institutions set for CBN’s football tournament

No fewer than twenty four financial institutions have indicated interest to participate in the forthcoming Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) football competition billed at various centre’s cut across six- geopolitical zones of the country.

Making this known to newsmen in Abuja at Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretariat, director, corporate communications department in CBN, Mr. Ibrahim Muazu, said that the apex financial body was delighted to note that many teams from deposit money banks, financial regulatory agencies and other financial institutions indicated willingness to participate in the 28th editions.

He noted that the competition would serve as a platform for promotion of unity, harmony and peaceful co- existence among key players in Nigeria’s financial system, according to him, the game of soccer is a unifying force that brings national pride with devoid of ethnic, regional and political coloration.

“CBN is committed to positive contributions towards the promotion and development of the game of football by sponsoring the competition annually, which is in line with the bank’s corporate social responsibility programme.

“We therefore urged all the teams that are registered to participate actively and exhibit an unrelenting spirit of sportsmanship, “ Muazu urged.

Peoples Daily Sports gathered that the preliminary matches of the competition would kick-off on 2nd of next month and end on the 7th, in four zones, Oshogbo, Kaduna, Enugu and Benin while the quarter final matches are to be played at the same venue on 9th and 12th respectively.

The final would be play at Ilorin township stadium on 18th of the same month, the winner is expected to go home with two million naira, second one point five million naira, third position one million naira while fourth position go home with five hundred naira only.
