Kano state Police Command on Friday paraded 242 suspected criminals it arrested in various place across the state.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Habu A. Sani, said the arrests were made between 9th September to 16th October 2020 for offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, thuggery, mobile phone snatching and drug dealings.
Speaking while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters on Friday, the CP said 24 armed robbery and 17 kidnapping suspects were arrested in the period under review.
He added that the command had succeeded in arresting notorious mobile phone snatchers, numbering 67, adding that 12 motorcycles and 68 mobile handsets were recovered from them.
Sani explained that with the new trends of mobile handsets theft and snatching, the Command garnered both its human and technical assets to carryout intelligence-led operations to deal with such menace, attributing the success to the approach he employed.
He also disclosed that the command had succeeded in recovering 9 assorted arms, including 2 AK47 Rifles, 1 Beretta Pistol, 2 Locally Made Pistols, and Six Locally Made Guns.
Others include 5 Motor Vehicles, 9 Tricycles, 17 Motorcycles, 13 bags and 222 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemps, valued at N2,820,000.00.
Other exhibits include 3 cartons of codiene syrup valued at N360,000, among other items including knives, mobile handsets, laptops and POS machines.
“These successes recorded were as a result of the support, encouragement and cooperation of the Inspector General of Police, the Government, the good people of Kano State and sustained synergy with other sister security agencies, which greatly impacted on the general peaceful atmosphere enjoyed in the State.
“We urge you to continue to give the Command all the necessary support and cooperation as we shall continue to remain committed and resolute in safe-guarding lives and properties of the good people of the state,” he said.
