The Northern Women in Politics (NWIP) rose from their monthly meeting in Abuja with the resolve to among other things, widen their scope in covering all spheres of decision making; including politics, business and the civil service.
Auditor General of the Arewa Consultative Forum and President, Northern Women in Politics (NWIP), Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi, who spoke with our repoter shortly after the meeting, urged women to come out and vie for all positions.
She made reference to the party congresses to be held by various political parties ahead of the 2023 elections, such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is about to kick start their congresses.
Abdullahi said “Women should come out en-masse and vie for these positions to become Local Government party Chairmen, State Chairmen and even be National Chairmen and also occupy some of the positions at the national level.”
“In the civil service, women need to become Permanent Secretaries, Directors and Ministers”.
She said because it is impossible to do politics without economic empowerment, women must strive to do well in business as, “without your own money, no one can support you. If people want to give you support, they want to see what you have before they can come out and support you.
“In business, women need to be empowered to become CEOs, in politics also, women need to be given the chance to be elected into positions of responsibility such as Local Government Chairmen, Councillors, House of Representatives, House of Assembly members, Governors and even as the President of Nigeria.
“When you have your little finances and you come out, people will have confidence in you that you will be able to deliver and they will support you with their own finances and other material things that will make you win elections”, she said.
