A Bauchi State Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) Alhaji Ahmed Iliyasu has explained that large turnout voters who will come out to vote for the candidate of their choice during the 2019 general elections, will be unlike the low turnout of voters recorded during the recent bye elections conducted in some parts of the country.
Iliyasu, who gave the explanation while answering questions from reporters in Bauchi, said now people believe in democracy and there is political awareness; adding that people also know that Democratic transition through periodic and credible elections is the best way to ensure certainty that will guarantee and sustain political stability in the state and the country at large.
He expressed hope that the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) will conduct free, fairs and credible general elections next year, because of the improvement witnessed in the system.
Iliyasu said, “considering what had happened in the country since during the tenure of Jega as INEC chairman and presently Professor Mahmood Yakubu, I have hope that both security agencies, Press men and other stake holders and the electoral body are determined to conduct free, fair and credible elections, even though we are not unaware that the conduct of 2019 elections is a tough task but all the stakeholders are capable to conduct free fair and credible election.”
He said he has started contesting the Governorship of Bauchi State since 2007 in his effort to correct the mistakes of the past and to provide adequate infrastructures needed to bring quality life to the people of Bauchi State.
Governorship candidate said in Bauchi today we are battling with decayed infrastructures in all critical sectors like education, healthcare and we need to be committed to democratic elections that would contribute to political stability and consolidation of democracy, which would propel the state to greater economic prosperity.
Iliyasu said majority of the people of Bauchi State are now ready to vote for meritorious candidate that will make effort to address their problems , that was the reason why many people Political stalwarts , Youths groups and Women asked me to contest in order to salvage the situation.
He said PDP, APC the so called big parties are only big in names today, people have tried their way of leadership but they were bedeviled with so many internal democracy squabbles which brought injustice to their members and this lack of internal democracy with the so called big parties has affected the strength of the parties.
Iliyasu expressed optimism that his Party PDP is an acceptable party to the majority of electorates in all nooks and crannies of the State and mane eligible voters are ready to vote for the PDP because of their
believe that his integrity and essential quality leadership will enable him to bring justice and quality life to the people of Bauchi State.
On the non-collection of PVC , Iliyasu said by January the electoral body has assured that all PVCs will be printed and distributed it to the eligible voters, even during the registration of PVCs I have personally went round all the media houses and went all wards and; polling units in the state where I mobilized and asked eligible voters to come out and register so that we can restore confidence of the people on the system, and since our people have trust on us the agree they came out and register so also people will come out and collect their PVCs to enable them exercise their rights. Iliyasu said by December they will unveil their mission and vision and what they have to offer to the people of Bauchi State, People were starve, and if we unveil our manifestoes people will rally around us because they will know our good intention and patriotism to improve their socio, economic and political development. and in sha Allah i will win the election and become a Governor of Bauchi State in 2019 with the support of majority of eligible voters.
