The North-East Zonal secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced screening of all its governorship aspirants from the six states in the zone in Bauchi in preparation for the Primary election ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial elections,
Our correspondent reports that all the aspirants from the six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states are appearing before the screening committee headed by Barrister John Mathew Abinku to be screened.
The committee has screened the Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku who is seeking re-election for a second term is leading the pack among the aspirants to be screened by the committee, Others screened are the immediate former FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed; former Deputy Senate leader, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps now a Senator from Gombe state, Bayero Usman Nafada, Senator Adamu Ibrahim Gumba.
Speaking with reporters immediately after he was screened the Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku the gubernatorial aspirant said that the PDP is battle ready to win more states in the North-East geopolitical region considering the acceptability of the party in the region due to what he described as the failure of the ruling APC to deliver dividends of democracy
The Governor who is the sole aspirant of the PDP in Taraba state explained that his tremendous achievements have endeared him to the people of the state that was the reason no one is contesting the PDP ticket with him.
Ishaku said that the PDP will spring electoral surprises in the North-East geopolitical region in the 2019 general elections.
The Governor who said that his administration has excelled in the areas of education, agriculture and prompt payment of workers’ salaries assured that the administration has plans to do more for the people of the state and commended the Committee for doing a good and thorough job declaring that it was a transparent exercise in line with the guidelines of the PDP.
