The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has urged the international partners of Nigeria, especially European Union EU and America, to bring their influence to bear on the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, with a view to making sure that it conducts free, fair and credible elections.
Prince Secondus also enjoined the nation’s international partners to show more than passing interests in the activities of security agencies particularly the Police, pointing out that a bias Police force is an easy way to encouraging violence.
The PDP National Chairman said these while playing host to a delegation of the European Union of the Election Exploration mission to Nigeria led by Niclay Paus in Abuja.
He pointed out that the PDP’s lack of confidence in the activities of the Independent National Commission, INEC, has not changed , stressing that it is even getting deeper.
Prince Secondus disclosed that all intelligence report available to the party shows that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has concluded arrangement with INEC to manipulate the electoral process.
His words, “So, the summary is that we don’t have confidence in INEC, and our security agencies, they can’t do the right thing that our party did in 2015.
“To conduct free, fair and credible election. We will continue to talk on this, we asked that the nephew of Mr president (Mrs Amina Zakari) who was before now in charge of operations and led all the INEC operations in Ekiti and Osun to be removed from the commission.
“But what they did after our protest was to reassign her. It is not enough. She has the capacity to influence others, there will not be any election that will be free and fair until she is removed from INEC. Because she is protecting the interest of the President.
“The INEC chairman and the Commission must seat up right”, he said.
Prince Secondus said that what happened at the governorship election in Osun state merely underscored the party’s fears that INEC is not ready to be neutral.
Continuing, he said “Our fear is strong that the APC and the administration are not disposing themselves for a peaceful 2019 general election and we base our position on the multiplicity of induced crisis across the country
“With all the unprecedented blood letting in the country, the President is not engaging the people and a select group operating as cabals have hijacked the system”, Secondus declared.
