From Ahmad Mohammed, Bauchi

Bauchi State All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader, Hajiya Sa’adatu Mahmuda has expressed optimism that many women will come out to contest elective positions in Nigeria in 2019, in order to contribute more to the nation’s building.
Hajiya Sa’adatu stated this yesterday in Bauchi while enlightening some women groups about the importance of acquiring voters card.
She said, “All eligible voters will not have right to vote if they don’t get their voters card; even those who already have their permanent voters card should please check and make sure it is available. Where it’s not available, you can go to the electoral body officials and report before they conclude the ongoing registration exercise.”
She said women who were married from another area to the area where their husbands reside should also inform the electoral officials, so that they will transfer them to the nearest polling stations where they reside.
The Woman Leader assured that more women are coming out to contest elective positions in all parts of the country.
“In 2019, more women will contest, because our party APC gave women more opportunities to contribute in nation’s building. And when you observe today you will see that more women are in active politics; but our number in elective positions is not enough, especially in Northern Nigeria where we have only one female senator, Senator Binta Masi. But in other parts of the country, there are more women senators across the geo-political zones.
“With the encouragement we have been receiving from the wife of President Buhari, Hajiya Aishatu Buhari, and Wife of Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar, who is the chairperson of Northern Governors’ wives, we have hope that more women will contest.”
She said “let me clarify that we are not competing with men; we know men are our fathers, they are our husbands, we respect them and remember it’s in their own wisdom that they even allow us to participate in active politics; they even appoint us in different positions – like in Bauchi State, our Governor Mohammed Abubakar appointed three women as Commissioners. Look at the number of women at the Federal Executive Council. This is to show you that our leaders always encourage us; they allow us to hold different offices at our party level, APC; and by the grace of God, they will graciously open space for women and allow us to contest for more elective positions in 2019.
“We are not contesting against them; and we have high hope that they will allow us generously to contribute our quota for nation’s building.”
The Woman Leader also noted that even though it’s not time for politicking, she was sure that APC will come out of all its challenges, and appoint credible candidates who will win elections in 2019, considering the numerous achievements recorded in the country.
“All the challenges you have been seeing in APC is part of democracy. We will unite ourselves as one family. Remember when we were not together; we came from different family, we united ourselves in the interest of the country. We will still burry our differences in the interest of the country; and we will not let Nigerians or Bauchi State people down.”
