He said to be a man of no mean stature, an accomplished banker, renowned economist and astute politician. He left Diamond Bank Plc as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. An achiever per excellence, his sign-posts at Diamond bank speak volumes of a scintillating outing.
Thus Dr. Alex Otti is back again at the starting block, soliciting for the support and cooperation of Ndi Abia to enable him serve them better. He is dedicated, focused, dynamic, with the mind and vision to turn Abia around, from its suspended animation to virility.
His name is Alexander, meaning “a helper of Man” indeed Dr. Alex Otti is cut out for service to humanity, to God and Country, and there is no stopping him this time around.
In 2015 Dr. Otti emerged with a blue print to turn Abia into a paradise of sort, and became a victim of stolen mandate hence the glory of Abia is still trudging in the dust. Inveterate demagogues and ragamuffins who wished Abia to continue wallowing in darkness, rubbed our prospective governor of a concluded election victory at the polls.
Today, Abians are wiser and have sworn that the mistakes of the past shall never and will never be repeated come 2019. According to a Kenyan proverb, “someone that is meant to be great will be no matter how, because a champion bull starts from birth”
It is no longer gain saying that Dr. Alex Otti is on his way to making history again. It is also no longer news that God’s own people of Abia state have embraced the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and have also vowed to make it a party of their future.
In this regard, the governorship hopeful in next year’s election, the suave, urbane, maverick politician Dr. Alex Otti is determined to carry every Abian along in his team player administration meant to enhance the rapid transformation of the state following years of decay, deceit and massive looting of state treasury.
Reacting over the matter, a frontline politician and humanist Hon. Kingsley Oriaku also an aspirant for the House of Representatives for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Abia state, described Dr. Alex Otti as the candidate to beat in the forthcoming governorship election of Abia State. Prince Oriaku who is Dr. Otti’s enthusiast and ardent follower lambasted those responsible for the lamentations of Abia people following years of neglect, waste, and alleged diversion of public funds.
He maintained that APGA through the visionary leadership of Dr. Alex Otti will make it to the Government House Umuhia and by the grace of God rescue the state from the doldrums of incompetence, retrogression and squandamania.
According to Mr. Kingsley Oriaku “Dr. Alex Otti possesses impeccable credentials and by the grace of God APGA through Alex Otti will take over Abia state and we will see the difference between a self-made man and a political made man”.
He poured encomiums on the versatile politician Dr. Alex Otti and urged Abians to rally round him in the interest of posterity. In his words, “Alex Otti is a successful banker, one of the few Nigerians that have made names in the banking industry. He is somewhat an enigma, a grassroots man, a political colossus of philanthropic disposition. He is a man of the masses, always providing succor and helping out in trouble spots. He is a leader that can make things work. Otti is neither driven by hunger nor greed. He has made money, he has also made name. His, is a burning desire, a passion to serve his people better. He wants to make a difference and prove that Abia can work again. Dr. Otti is a man of ideas and intelligence. Ideas rule the world. He has done a lot of medical and educational outreaches, he has also been impacting on the less privileged. In commence, Abia is going to wear a new look, Aba is going to lead as an international market. Fellow Abians, please let’s defend our votes this time and give Otti a chance for he is God sent. He is indeed on a rescue mission.
Born 18th February 1965 to the family of late Pastor and Mrs. Lazarus Weze Otti at Umuru Umuehim Village in Ehi Na Uguru ancient kingdom, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Abia State, and endowed with a first class brain, Dr. Ottis’s leadership quality and benevolent spirit manifested very early in his life. Trained at Ngwa High School, Aba, Secondary Technical School, Okpuala Ngwa, all in Abia State. He finished as best student in his set and in his school certificate examination. He thereafter, went to the prestigious University of Port Harcourt where he graduated with first class honours degree in Economics in 1988, thereby distinguishing himself as the best from his Faculty of Social Sciences as well as the overall best graduating student. As a campus Journalist Otti excelled as the News editor of the school’s Newsletter, Uniport Mirror; he also served as the treasurer of the Nigerian Economic Students Association, NESA, and following the financial discipline he displayed, he later become the President of the body.
A distinguished alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Business School; Otti attended various international courses including Executive Development Programmes of the Columbian and Stanford Business Schools. He was also at Wharton Business School where he left a lasting academic record.
The ever calm, reserved, disciplined and God-fearing intellectual and veteran banker started his career at Nigerian International Bank, a subsidiary of Citi Bank of New York. He moved over to International Merchant Bank where he served at the Treasury Financial and Corporate Banking Division. In 1992, he joined Society Bancaire Nigerian Limited, a subsidiary of Bonque SBA Paris where he rose to the position of a senior manager. He later moved over to United Bank for Africa, UBA, as Principal Manager overseeing the bank’s Corporate Banking Sector for the entire South division with the responsibility of growing Oil and Gas business for the bank. Following his performance, Otti was promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2000. He left for First bank in 2001 and was saddled with the responsibility of growing the energy sector for the bank. He was promoted to Deputy General Manager/Executive Director Commercial Banking with over 140 branches in the South South, and South East geopolitical zones, within his domain.
In March 2011, he crossed over to Diamond Bank as Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and led the bank to a major transformation. Though his tenure was extended but Otti felt a strong pull to serve his good people of Abia State, hence his resignation.
Highly respected for his wealth of experience, he is on the board of several companies and two Nigerian Leading Universities. He was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by Babcock University in 2009 and another by his Alma Mater – the University of Port Harcourt.
Dr. Alex Otti is an investor, philanthropist and inspiration to many Nigerians especially children and youth. He is married with three children. In an interview with newsmen in Umuahia recently, Otti said “I won’t give up my vision for Abia. I believe that God has laid it in my heart to bring transformation to Abia state and change the present socio-economic situation of Abia people for the better. We need to fire up the development in the state to meet up with other states, especially its contemporaries”.
This is the language of a serious minded leader, a man that can make things happen, a man born to serve. The primus–inter pares. With people like Alex Otti, Abia State and indeed Nigerian will be better.
