From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi
Stakeholders of Ado local government area of Benue State have demanded that the House of Representative seat should be zoned to them in line with the 2010 agreement.
The stakeholders who made the demand at a meeting held at the Plaza Hotel, Makurdi recently, called on the people of Okpokwu and Ogbadibo local government councils to reciprocate the spirit of fairness and equity by honoring the 2010 rotational arrangements reached amongst the three local government areas.
They emphasized that the rotational arrangement was aimed at ensuring that power is fairly shared amongst the three councils to reduce tension and disunity amongst aspirants from the areas.
Chairman of Ado local government council, Special Adviser to Governor Gabriel Suswam on Public Utilities Chief Ekpe Ogbu as well as People’s Democratic Chairman of the area, Augustine Ogbu commended the conveners of the stakeholders meeting, noting that it would go a long way in fostering unity amongst the people in adopting a common position on the issue of the House of Representative seat.
They therefore, enjoined the people to evolve peaceful means of persuading and convincing both Okpokwu and Ogbadibo people to see reasons with them based on mutual trust and understanding in conceding the seat since both areas have had their own fair shares of the position.
The seat is presently occupied by Hon. Hassan Saleh from Ogbadibo local government council.
